Understanding is a three edged sword,
your side, their side, and
THE TRUTH
13 words that can be used to lead you on the path to understanding.
The Three Edged Sword has a two fold purpose. First is to provoke thought by those who visit. Second is a more selfish reason. I just kinda like to play around with this interweb thing. Using the links to the left you can find out more about the how and why of The Three Edged Sword. There are {or so to come} tips, tricks, resources, and much more that I hope you will find interesting enough to at least waste a couple of your oh so precious minutes on.
In short, its my way of giving America Online the finger! For the full story keep reading.
Back in the old days a lot of the people like me who that thought it would be cool to have a personal website also thought that a black back ground was cool. Maybe not so much. Like many back in the day my first website, a shining example of how not to build a website, was hosted on AOL. They had sort of a free website hosting thing that went along with interntet hosting service. It wasn't much, but it sufficed for the needs of a personal website.
Then one day my site was gone. AOL ended their site hosting sevice. WITH OUT WARNING! After a call to customer service, an oxymoron with AOL, I found out what happened. It was an economics thing. The lackey on the other end of the phone line said that AOL had sent out an e-mail 30 days prior to ending their hosting service to let all their costomers know what was up. After checking my email, while still on the phone with this bird, I never found it in my in box or anywhere else.
I could give you the whole story of what went on during that conversation with that lackey, but the long and short of it was that AOL ended their hosting service with out giving ME any notice. I had no chance to go and download my files form their servers so I could find a new site host and keep the steaming pile of crap I called a website going. It doesn't matter how lame my site was, I feel a little notice would have been nice.
Lucky for me I back everything up. I had copies of that lame website. Not everyone does this though. A lot of people lost everything. I realize that it is not all the fault of AOL that these people lost their stuff, but how hard would it have been to put a little more effort into customer service than sending out 1 email. Come on, they could have at least given more than a thirty days before they deleted all the files off of their servers so people would had a chance to get their files that were stored there.
So I figured what I would do is find a new site host and put my website back up, and that's what I did. I also figured I would update the HTML coding and add some real content to it while trying to keep the "retro" look to it. While most of the old website still resides on my computer here at the house waiting to be forced upon the world again, {which I will some day do} I've managed to build a website that while you may think its is still a steaming pile of crap, at least it does not look like one.
Well anyways, that's the story of why the Sword look this. Its just my little way of giving AOL the bird. That and bashing them every time I get a chance. : )
